ZDX. The first concept from Acura's new design studio.

ZDX designers were given absolute freedom. Paper to finished product. The "clean sheet" improved existing processes while creating new manufacturing techniques. In the end, the ZDX emerged as a new benchmark for all future Acuras.

I'll share my impressions of the 2010 ZDX with you in this blog in the coming weeks.

Acura Announces Pricing and On-Sale for 2010 MDX

Significantly enhanced MDX gets more standard features and a new Advance Package
TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 9, 2009 – Already a leader in its class, the significantly enhanced 2010 MDX gets bold new styling, an all-new six-speed transmission, a revised chassis, additional content along with enhanced safety and convenience features. The 2010 MDX luxury SUV goes on-sale at Acura dealerships on December 11 with a manufacturers suggested retail price* (MSRP) starting at $42,230, plus a destination and handling (D&H) charge of $810, Acura announced today.
       “The MDX has long been considered a benchmark in its class,” said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. “The 2010 MDX raises the bar yet again with its fresh looks, an all-new 6-speed transmission and lots of new customer-relevant technology.”
       Visually, the 7-passenger 2010 MDX receives more aggressive styling in the form of new front and rear bodywork, a bold new front grille, numerous trim enhancements, revised taillights and polished stainless-steel exhaust finishers. New 18-inch diameter 5-spoke aluminum wheels are standard with 19-inch diameter 7-spoke aluminum wheels available as part of the Advance Package.
       Powering every MDX is a more refined engine that teams with an all-new 6-speed automatic transmission for better performance and improved fuel efficiency. The new 3.7-liter VTEC® V-6 generates 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque while achieving an EPA estimated city/highway fuel mileage of 16/21 mpg** (an improvement of 1 mpg city and 1 mpg highway over the 2009 MDX). Standard on every MDX is Acura’s exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) system that provides outstanding handling and excellent all-season capability.
       Inside, the 2010 MDX receives a host of new features and technologies that make it even more luxurious. Topping the list is the expanded use of Milano Premium Leather, a new sport steering wheel with racing-inspired paddle shifters, new gauges, easier to understand button placement for center stack functions, available ventilated front seats and upgraded interior trim.
       The 2010 MDX will be available in five trim packages including: the well-equipped MDX; MDX with Technology Package; MDX with Technology and Entertainment Packages; MDX with Advance Package; and MDX with Advance and Entertainment Packages.
       Despite only a 3-percent increase in price, the 2010 base MDX receives a plethora of new standard content including a power rear tailgate, steering wheel mounted paddle shifters, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with integrated rear view camera screen, LED backlit instrumentation, a new hill start assist feature and premium loop-style floormats. Also included is the MDX’s previous standard equipment including items such as: a leather trimmed interior, power moonroof, a tri-zone climate control system and Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® wireless telephone interface. Also standard with the 2010 MDX is an 8-speaker, 253-watt Acura Premium Sound System that features XM® Radio with a new Note function, an in-dash 6-disc CD changer and AUX jack connectivity for personal audio devices.
       The MDX with Technology Package adds Milano Premium Leather seating surfaces, Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic™ with Traffic Rerouting™, AcuraLink Real-Time Weather™ with radar image maps, a new full VGA color display screen and an innovative multi-view rear camera. Additionally, the Technology Package includes an Acura/ELS Surround® 410-watt Premium Audio System with 10 speakers, hard disk drive (HDD) media storage, in-dash CD, DVD-Audio, MP3, WMA and DTS® player, AM/FM tuner, XM® Radio with Note function music reminder, Dolby® Pro Logic® II, Song By Voice™ (SBV), USB port and AUX jack connectivity.
       In addition to the features found in the Technology Package, the new Advance Package adds several premium technologies including the Collision Mitigating Braking System™ (CMBS™), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), an all-new blind spot information system (BSI) and the Active Damper System. The Advance Package makes use of special 19x8-inch 7-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with Michelin Latitude all-season tires and auto-leveling HID front headlights. Also part of the Advanced Package are ventilated front seats, a sport steering wheel with unique design racing-inspired paddle shifters and textured metallic interior accents
       An Entertainment Package (available with Technology and Advanced Packages) includes a new Rear Entertainment System (RES) complete with a DVD player, power folding 9-inch full VGA color screen (with 400-percent improved resolution), dual wireless headphones and a wireless illuminated remote control. Also included are heated second row outboard seats and a 115-volt plug located in the center console.
       Like all 2010 Acura models, the MDX is covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and a 6-year/70,000 powertrain limited warranty. Additional ownership benefits include Acura Total Luxury Care® (TLC®), which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance, concierge service and trip routing.

Tony,

Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that my '09 MDX works just fine in the snow. I was in Madison Wednesday morning staying at a hotel when the blizzard hit.
I got out of the unplowed motel parking lot (17.8" of snow here) and headed over to my office near the intersection of I-90 and the beltline. Turns out I was the only guy in our Department who made it to work yesterday before the Governor closed all state offices.
Here are a couple of happy snaps of our (almost) empty parking lot. I've got some serious bragging rights about guys from Milwaukee getting to work when the Madison folks stayed home!

Acura Announces November Sales Results

Acura MDX Posts an Impressive 79.3 Percent Increase in Monthly Sales

TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 1, 2009 – Strong sales of light trucks and the TSX sports sedan helped Acura achieve November sales of 8,769 units, an increase of 20.8 percent based on the daily selling rate*. Year-to-date sales** reached 95,148, down 28.4 percent compared to 2008.

Acura light trucks posted an impressive 72.2 percent gain for the month. The MDX luxury SUV sold 3,465 units, up 79.3 percent, and was the best selling Acura in November. The RDX posted strong sales of 943 units, up 50.5 percent versus November 2008.

“We kicked off our very successful ‘Acura Drive Safely for the Holidays’ event this month and we are already experiencing excellent results,” said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. “Acura’s reputation for safety, technology and performance is winning over customers this holiday season.”

The TSX was Acura’s best selling sedan, with November sales of 2,126 units, up 35.0 percent. The TL performance luxury sedan sold 2,059 units for the month.

How safe is your teenage driver?

My 16 year-old daughter recently completed a defensive driving class at WCTC. I’m convinced she’s more prepared and a safer teenage driver. Amazingly, she said, “It was so cool”, and volunteered for another session. She recalled with enthusiasm, “It’s awesome to accelerate in a straight line to 50 MPH and slam on the brakes”. Its one of many driving dynamics taught at this 1-day fast-paced class designed to improve driving skill sets for teenagers. The class featured 2 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of hands-on experiential learning. Enrolled with a friend, my daughter strongly suggests others do the same. She said, “Experiencing this with a friend had mutual learning advantages”. Fast turns, orange safety cones, skid control and much more in the name of safety, all under the watchful supervision and guidance of our highly skilled local police officers.

Like you, I worry when teens are out driving, especially when the roads are slippery. Since taking this class, my teen recognizes the potential hazards and has the skills to maintain or regain control of her vehicle. Like my 16 year-old daughter, I recommend this class to all teenage drivers.

You probably remember standing quietly for a couple of minutes every November 11th at 11:00am? Once called Armistice Day, also a national holiday in many countries, commemorates the cessation of most of the hostilities of WW1 on the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month”. Now called Veterans Day, many of the same tributes and memorials continue for all past military members as well as our troops at home and abroad today. Serving to protect, they put themselves in harms way to defend our liberty and freedom. They do this everyday, every week, every month, every year, 24/365 with an unwavering commitment to duty.

They’ve earned our respect, gratitude and recognition. As the tributes of this years Veterans Day fades away, let’s honor and serve them 24/365 as they do for us.

Temperature fluctuations and it's impact on your vehicle

Temperature fluctuations of 40 degrees or more this time of year isn't that unusual. These swift temperature swings effect our vehicles tires.

With under-inflated tires impeding the handling characteristics of cars and trucks, understanding temperature changes and its safety hazards is critical. Tire experts suggest that every 10 degree drop in temperature will decrease tire pressure by 1 p.s.i. (pound square inch). A 40 degree overnight temperature drop can lower the pressure in one or more of your tires to unsafe levels. Properly adjusting your tire pressure for seasonal change should be included in your maintenance regiment. It's easy to do yourself or by a mechanic. The recommended tire pressure settings are found in the driver’s door jam of every car and truck. Recommended tire pressure for Acura vehicles is 32-33 psi. You may want to consider pressure 1-3 psi above the recommended settings to maintain safe tire pressure during our Wisconsin winters. Making life easier, TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) designed to alert you if pressures drop below 28 psi is standard on all Acura vehicles. Beyond an "idiot light" the Multi-Information Display located on the instrument panel displays individual tire pressure that can be accessed anytime. Properly inflated tires also last longer and increase fuel economy. Check your tires regularly and we are all safer!

A perfect new vehicle delivery doesn't happen by chance. Preparing your brand new Acura for its maiden drive, customized per your instructions, in museum like quality, and on time requires extensive planning and execution by employees committed to excellence.
Today chance challenged perfect. On the last day of the month with only 4 hours before delivery, a roof rail accessory was missing a piece. With no other roof rail accessory in stock, driving to another Acura dealer was our only hope. To get the roof rail installed on time we had to move fast. As you probably are aware, month ends are always very busy. So who goes? Our Dealer Manager. That’s right. He's on the road in 5 minutes!
Meanwhile, energized Acura of Brookfield employees are busy assisting customers in our service lane while our showroom is buzzing with activity.
That new Acura is being delivered as I write, on time, accessorized as ordered and in museum like quality.

I was paged to our cashier area to authorize a loaner last night when I met one of our customers in need of wheels during his MDX repair. It's actually one of many enjoyable duties of my job. Saying "YES" allowing our customers the use of a loaner is definitely a stress reducer for them.

Exactly what this owner needed.

You see, the MDX I mentioned, was actually his wife's. While she was out of town on business, he decided to drive her perfect condition, great running MDX which ended it's day here. His car meanwhile back home, in the garage.

This sounds like a Jay Leno joke. Imagine for a minute how he would begin explaning this scenario to her. He wasn't too obvious when he encouraged me to have our service dept contact him first thing the next morning with a diagnosis and repair plan. And, of course that's exactly what happened.

In the end, a new battery saved the day and our owner left tonight smiling.

I wonder if he'll tell her. Would you?
